Across the industry, clinical trial sites face numerous challenges dealing with new – and often required – clinical research technologies. From multiple logins for numerous devices, to the challenges with usability of antiquated platforms, as an industry, feedback from sites must be integrated. As technology advances, what are the key steps that clinical trial sponsors should adopt when considering new technologies for sites, investigators, and research coordinators? How can sponsors ease the burden sites face on a day-to-day basis?
At a recent YPrime conference, Brad Hightower, Founder of Hightower Clinical Trial Services, discussed the hurdles that he has encountered over the years, and offered suggestions as to what clinical trial sponsors can do to increase adoption of new technologies by both sites and patients. Having worked at the site-level in clinical research for nearly 15 years, Brad offers a unique perspective on the relationship between each clinical trial stakeholder, providing a deeper understanding of the obstacles faced and the path forward.
As technology and innovation continue to reshape the way clinical trials are conducted, it’s important to address the challenges that emerge at the ground level. At YPrime, what we know for sure is that before patients are participants in clinical trials, they are people first. This core belief drives our constant exploration of human behavior and an ever-evolving understanding of user experience. This human-centric design ethos helps us build solutions that are appropriately simple, driving greater participant engagement. When patients and sites can easily incorporate clinical trial interfaces, such as eCOA and eConsent, into their day-to-day lives, participant compliance increases, and overall clinical trial data quality improves.

Innovation and quality are at the core of everything we do as an industry to improve clinical trials. That’s why every year, we host the Innovation Network Gathering—a forum for brilliant minds from various backgrounds to come together to engage in thought-provoking discourse that sparks new opportunities for growth and change.
